Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Newhall is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Newhall is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

If you want to pay the same price as the dealer, be my guest. I went in for a basic Service B on my Mercedes—nothing extra, nothing unusual(oil change and filters)—and somehow ended up paying more than the actual dealership charges. I’m not guessing; I called the dealer right after I left, and their price for a service they call service C,that is more extensive, was $9 cheaper. On top of being overpriced, you also get served a nice side of sarcasm and condescending comments, especially if you’re a woman. They talk to you like you’re clueless. Newsflash: we may not be mechanics, but we’ve owned and maintained cars for years. We understand the basics just fine. And the unprofessionalism doesn’t stop there. They couldn’t even be bothered to put my start button back where it belongs. I didn’t think to dig through my cupholder—where clearly engine start buttons hang out—so when I asked where my missing start button was, I got attitude for it. Honestly, the red flag was right in front of me when I asked for a price ahead of time and they refused to give one. I should have trusted my instincts.

Took my Audi A6 for coolant and thermostat repair. A few weeks after I start smelling gas coming from my hood and the undercarriage cover wasn't put on correctly that it fell off. I took my car to a different mechanic and they said the supercharger wasn't put back on straight which caused the fuel injector seals to crack costing us $1,190 - all due to this auto shops carelessness.

I have been taking my cars to German Autohaus for over 12 years and now my mom goes here too. Joseph and Jasik are honest and great at what they do. Plus, you dont have to give up your firstborn to pay for their amazing work. There are other places in town with “wonderful” reviews but they mickey moused my elderly moms car and put her safety at risk. I won’t take her car anywhere else.

I have been taking my Mercedes car and suv to German Autohaus since 2013. I have received the best trusted service without paying the high costs by the dealerships. My vehicles are in top shape and continue to help navigate these crazy California roads. I highly, highly recommend them to my fellow ladies in need of fair, honest and professional repair of our German made vehicles.

Fantastic, reliable, beautiful, excellent work! I wouldn't take my BMW anywhere else! I am so grateful for their excellent service, communication, honesty, and integrity. I've had consistently excellent service here. Not only is the mechanical work excellent, the body work is unsurpassable. I've had two incidents that required body work and you would never know I wasn't driving a brand new car that had never been damaged. Thank you!
